Green Issues

At The Park, we believe very strongly in the importance of supporting the natural environment, ensuring sustainability and protecting the heritage of this area we are lucky enough to be part of. Responsible tourism is a fundamental of our business ethos and informs all that we do as a company.

We will be using local resources for our development work and local staff will be employed for on-site work. We will be forging links with local community businesses and suppliers wherever possible. The organic food boxes we will be supplying, as well as The Park’s on-site catering, will be sourced locally as we build up contacts with local producers. This relationship with our local community is an important part of The Park’s green ethos as we believe we all have a responsibility to keep our carbon footprint to a minimum where possible, even while on holiday.

We will help our guests to enjoy locally based activities, such as walking, surfing, visiting National Trust Gardens and the many nearby attractions on offer, by providing transport, including collection from Newquay Airport when required, thereby reducing everyone’s carbon footprint. We plan to introduce electric buggies to The Park for guests to use to get around the site.

We will introduce more native planting in The Park and encourage more flora and fauna. Our permaculture programme will include creating an allotment where we will grow vegetables, herbs and fruit and there will be chickens so guests can enjoy fresh, free range eggs. Solar heating and a heat recovery unit will be introduced to sustain our ecological ethos. The Park will be a safe environment for children of all ages and we will encourage their understanding and knowledge of how to help protect the local environment, including the beaches, the cliffs and the sea itself.

Freshwater showering will be available for guests to use around the pool area and after returning from surfing and enjoying water sports. 

The Park’s target of becoming a Green site will move steadily forward, whilst introducing our staff to green issues and changing working practice, such as using more ecologically friendly cleaning and gardening products. The Park has already been awarded a Gold Award in the David Bellamy Conservation Awards 2008 and our goal is to become a Green site under the Green Tourism Business Award Scheme. We believe The Park will become one of Cornwall’s most prestigious holiday accommodation providers and a market leader in encouraging responsible, green tourism into the area.
